Generative
Welcome to the next hype cycle, friends, where we’ve traded on-chain JPEGs for an AI that can create more of them, faster.
Our economic reality has swung the zeitgeist pendulum from one extreme to another. We’ve gone from an excess mindset of “culture at any costs” to an austerity so extreme that it’s “cultural at marginal cost.”
Write a Generative AI prompt. Churn out copy. Write a Generative AI prompt. Churn out creative.
Perversely, this is viewed as progress.
Maybe that’s because we have spent the last 20 years coalescing around common aesthetics—Instagram pink, 90s nostalgia, etc—to the point that we’ve created a term (“blanding”) for it. And that’s just a result of us copying each other.
Imagine, then, what happens when we make our ability copy even more efficient. Just how boring will we get?
